As the name suggests, this breed originates from Afghanistan.

The Afghan is a beautiful and majestic dog, with a strong hunting instinct.  Their original role was to hunt large prey including leopard, holding them at bay until their owner could catch up.  Don’t be surprised then if this dog has a tendency to revert to it’s hunting nature and chase wildlife if not correctly trained or kept on leash in tempting environments.
